A few weeks ago, i was at one of the local town squares of Jakarta. It wasn't a really pleasant day, everybody was having problems. Lets just say, bad stuff happened that day. Several people were grouping up to have a sitdown and light a joint, being a friend i was invited to this wonderful gathering. We ventured to an empty house of one person absent of that regular group. After several hours of mindless jokes and laughs, ridden with munchies the now intoxicatedly happy group of people head back to the square to grab a bite. In the square everyone kept mentioning a performance of dance, being an outsider i paid no attention to it. In the middle of a friendly conversation, one of the group stood up saying the performance was about to start. Within a couple of seconds everyone scrambled and moved to the middle of the square. Still under influence i just followed and watched the upcoming show. Still confused i stood in the square watching people going by, and i noticed one person dancing to music that suddenly played. More and more people joined in, it was more of a guirella advertising event than a performance actually. But still it was amusing. Jakarta Love Riot, i think was the name of the musical promoted. The surprise civilian dance troupe grew larger and larger and then disbanding in an unorderly fashion.
Unfortunately i didn't bring any kind of camera, so i didn't get the chance to documentate the event.
